Reviews

Below are some critical reviews about Mongoose Flatrock Hardtail Mountain Shifters

First off, this bike looks great! The geometry is really good for a kid bike. Was packaged good, no damage, assembled easy, fit my 11 year old daughter perfectly. With that being said... This bike has HORRIBLE components! The front shifter has like 9 clicks, for three gears? They're "Mongoose" shifters, and it's like they used the same shifters for front and rear to save money. Trying to explain ".. It has to click 3 times to shift, not two!", Or listening to the chain drag on the front derailleur because she hit 4 clicks is maddening! The derailleurs need adjustment right out of the box, typical for any bike bought online; no biggie. I am 100% familiar with adjusting derailleurs. Rear is a Shimano, which actually was very close, and simple to adjust and get perfect, took 5 minutes. The front derailleur is absolute garbage. With the shifter having 9 clicks for three gears, adjusting this was a MAJOR P.I.T.A!!! For almost $300 bike, they could've easily put matching Tourney derailleurs, with trigger shifters. So I figured I'd eat $20, and ditch the P.O.S. twist shifters put Shimano trigger shifters on so my daughter can focus on riding instead of counting clicks. Rear shifter, straight forward, took 10 minutes to install and adjust (it's easy when components match). Front shifter, easy install but guess what? The POS generic derailleur they put on this thing does not have enough throw for EZ Rapid Fire shifter???? So I would have to eat another $15 for a Tourney derailleur so she can grab 3rd gear? FRUSTRATING!!!! So she only gets two gears up front, which is ok because it's still faster than she'll ride it with only the two gears up front. Overall, I am happy with the bike, but it is not an ideal setup for a kid. I will probably eventually upgrade the front derailleur so it works right with the shifters, but for $270 kids bike, I should not have to be upgrading things right out of the gate. Shame on you Mongoose.

I bought this item for my wife for her birthday. so i wanted to get it assembled in time for her. Upon receiving it I noticed the box was severely damaged. i removed the bike and looked it over in dim lighting. I noticed a couple small scratches but thought no big deal i will contact the seller and they will help me find a resolution. They suggested i either use model car paint or nail polish or just return the bike (which means i have to disassemble and reassemble a new one along with the inconvenience of trying to fit everything back into a box) so i responded asking if it was a joke. They want me not only to locate the correct color, buy it and then paint it. not even so much as a "we apologize for the inconvenience". apparently they don't have touch up paintnow lets get to the assembly. it went pretty well but the front wheel did not easily fit thru the front brake bracket so i had to undo the brake to get the wheel in then had to put the brake mechanism back together. i think spend the next 30 minutes trying to adjust the brake so it wasn't rubbing.ride and fit. my wife liked the way it felt riding the bike. and wants a new replacement instead so i am going to return to get one that is not scratched (hopefully) i however, being a man on a women's bike thought it felt small. but my bigger issue was the front strut felt awkward to me when going over bumps. it was a sudden bounce and the few times i rode it trying to adjust the brake i thought the tire popped each time i hit a bump due to the lack of smoothness in the strut.overall bike is decent and not overly light but its not terribly heavy either. due to the customer service response this bike get 1 star. i would have probably given a bit higher rating if not for the joke of a response.amazon customer service agent was helpful and friendly in determining how to ship the item back.

The bike is beautiful. I got it for my daughter's birthday, but my daughter can't ride it until we can get the tire fixed. It will not hold air. I'm not sure if it just needs a new tube or it's a problem with the rim. I don't like to spend $300 on something I have to spend more money to fix.

Below are some positive reviews about Mongoose Flatrock Hardtail Mountain Shifters

Overall the bike is nice. It was mostly set up and functions well. The only downsides are the chain was stuck in the pedal gear which we had to pry out to fix. Also the purple is very dark that it almost looks black. Also the bike was scratched and the box was smashed. We got lucky that shipping did not ruin it.

Good bike for the price. Gotta turn it over and rest it on the handlebars to get the stem to sit correctly when lining up the front wheel. So far, the disc brakes.... ah well. thems the breaks.Had to adjust the front derailleur to get it to shift to the biggest gear, wasnt too difficult. back gears came properly adjusted already so that was cool.Front tire wasnt the steadiest when spinning, no biggie just a little out of round but I was more concerned about if the thing would have arrived badly damaged, which it didnt.. Not a scratch anywhere, no missing anything.Bikes sturdy and fits me just fine im way over 6 feet and way over 200 lbs, so I'm just glad the bike feels solid under me and i can pedal up the steepest incline in my neighborhood while sitting and whistling.I'm gonna have some nice quads riding this thing everywhere.4 stars, overall happy customer

The bike was delivered in two days and the assembly of it was very easy. This was exactly what I was looking for.
