Reviews

Below are some critical reviews about VELOWAVE Electric Lithium Ion Removable Certified

First off, it's a nice looking bike and seems like a good deal for the price for what it provides, but it's cheaply made. The box had a bunch of holes and looks like it was in poor condition like it has been used. After a day of riding this bike, I tried to switch gears on the bike to a lower number before going up an incline (I didn't forcedly pedal hard or anything crazy), and the derailer destroyed itself. I see other reviews mentioning this issue too.I contacted customer support to report the issue and got a replacement part that fixed the issue since it was under 1 year warranty (Took around a month to receive it since it came from China). They're customer service isn't that great and they have broken English. The battery life doesn't last very long and drains quickly. Turning off the display and then turning it back on will increase the display for the battery percentage by a few percent, but will suddenly drop after riding for a while (Back to the number it was on, except a few percent lower from riding around until it changed). The battery percentage doesn't change in real time and shows an inaccurate percentage number. The percentage will stay at a certain number for a while and then suddenly drop a large percentage to where it's actually at (Usually by 2% - 5% sometimes around 8% - 10%) sometimes it just drains fast on full battery (Drops by 8% - 10% from a 1-2 mile ride). Also the speed decreases when the battery is at around 12% left and goes about 20 MPH instead of 30 MPH when pedaling. Then 15 MPH and eventually 10 MPH the lower the battery percentage gets. The front light never turned on or even worked when I firsted assembled it. Not sure if there is an option somewhere I am missing to turn it on or it was supposed to turn on automatically. After a few months of riding again, I was riding on the sidewalk (Sidewalk was clean and there was nothing on the sidewalk to puncture my tire), I saw a nut fly in the air on my front left and then I hear air coming out of my back tire. I have no idea how this happened because I didn't run over anything (I pay attention to the ground ahead of me to make sure I don't run over anything). I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the manufacturing of the bike and something came into collision with a part of the bike and punctured the tire? I tried to look for the nut, but couldn't find it anywhere, I inspected the back tire and everywhere else on the bike and didn't see anything missing or any holes in the tire (I'm not sure where that nut came from since there wasn't any on the ground, plus if I ran over it, it wouldn't fly high in the air in front of me to my left). I saw a couple other reviews of people experiencing their back tire going flat.I contacted customer support again to replace the tire tubes, but wanted me to pay them $23 to their PayPal account even though it's still under 1 year warranty (Seems kinda sketchy). I went ahead and bought some from Amazon around the same price since they would most likely be more durable and reliable than theirs. Eventually I'm going to sell it after it's fixed to get my money back since it's not worth the expensive price tag, hassle, and bs from it. I like it, but hate it because of its manufacturer and customer service. Eventually I'm going to replace it with the Delfast if that bike doesn't suck and have a bunch of issues like Velowave does. Conclusion; I recommend searching for electric bikes (Or any kind of bike) outside of department stores (Especially Amazon) since you will find better and more reliable bikes outside of them. Also do research before buying, if you can't find any issues that would be a deal-breaker for you, then it shouldn't be an issue. I did a bunch of research, including YouTube videos, and reading the reviews on here and outside of Amazon (Including the Velowave website) for this bike and didn't discover any issues until I got it. So I thought to warn anyone that is considering this bike for the issues that it will most likely have unless you miraculously don't have any.Disclaimer: The reviews I write are legitimate based on my experience with it, without it being a fake review to mislead anyone. I write them to help people understand, learn, and gain knowledge on what you will most likely expect from it.

I saw the reviews about the derailleur breaking but bought it anyway as a gift for my husbands 50th birthday. It was easy to put together, came with all the tools and looked awesome, and then we tried it out. Well it broke on the first test ride after being put together by my adult son. You can’t return this thru Amazon so I contacted the company. Their response was relatively quick and that they are going to send a new part. I am highly disappointed and I hope it gets here prior to his birthday. It will truly suck if I have no gift to give him. This was Amazon recommended and perhaps they should reconsider the recommendation. If the new part comes timely and without any issues I will update this review.Update from 1 to 3 stars. I did receive the new derailleur part. First I was told it would be two weeks because the part was on back order, then when I said I will return it instead miraculously the part was shipped. I was told it would take 5 minutes to install, it took well over an hour. I was sent a video to provide instructions on how to replace. The new derailleur is working great so far and my husband loves the bike. This thing goes fast, looks good, and is a lot of fun.My rating is still based on the company seems to know they have an issue with the derailleur (hence the video and the part on back order ) but continue to produce the bike and allow people to purchase with a defective part which is unfortunate for the consumer. How about you make the bike with the more durable part in the first place! The company emailed me 3 times asking me to update my review due to poor reviews hurt their store operations. Over all I think it is still a good bike and good purchase for the money, however it would have been much better without all the headache and stress.

Came with no seat or post. The derailer, I’m guessing that is what it’s called judging from other complaints, broke before I ever had a chance to actually ride the bike.Granted, the replacement “derailer” was $20 on the Velowave website, after spending this much money, my experience has been less then fantastic.I was contacted by Velowave about the seat and post issue. In there defense , they offered to pay for my expenses. My time is worth more than a $50 seat and post, I’m sure I purchased something that was better then what would have been shipped with the bike.I hope my experience will soon become better. We shall see.On another note the handles are installed backwards apparently for compact shipping, no where in the directions for assembling is this even mentioned. Learned on my own.

Below are some positive reviews about VELOWAVE Electric Lithium Ion Removable Certified

This bike was an easy assembly (a 14yr old did it in under 45min, alone), and it looks awesome. Acceleration and top speed are amazing, and so is the battery. I've gotten to 34 miles per hour when going all-out on max pedal assist and max gear with a full battery, but this might be because I don't weigh much! Everything was perfect, but then the lock switch that needs to be turned to remove the battery broke clean in half. The lock switch had cracked in two (a cheap plastic piece), and made the battery irremovable. I could still charge it when the battery was in the frame though, so I left it for a few weeks, until one of the wires hooked onto another bike one day at the bike rack, and the wire was yanked out because I hadn't been paying attention. This disconnected the battery, so I had to ride over 3 miles on a dead bike with the resistance of the inactive motor (not reccomended!)So anyway, with no way to remove the battery and reconnect the wire, the e-bike was just a normal bike, until, after a lot of searching, I found a bike shop that was able to work on electric bikes (several refused to help)! They had to take out the entire battery locking mechanism and reconnect the wire, which was a whopping $200+.I should mention that I did reach out to customer service in this whole situation, and they were responsive and tried to be helpful, but just couldn't do much. I asked for a new lock switch piece, which they sent for free, but I just didn't end up needing it when the situation was resolved. So anyway, in the end, a critical and cheap piece broke, a wire was yanked out, and a shop did work on the bike so that it still works with a modification to the battery compartment mechanism. One more thing: the gear change has gotten stuck on me a few times, so when I change gears it sometimes everything locks up and I have to mess with it until it works again! Overall though, I love the bike, and use it almost every day. Great purchase, but be careful with it is all!

I purchased this bicycle for commuting roughly less than 5 miles round trip to work daily. I have commuted approximately 40 miles over the last two weeks and charged twice. Here are my opinions of the VELOWAVE Electric Bike 750W - Fat Tire model.Shipping and Assembly: The shipping was quite fast. I believe the turnaround time from purchase to delivery was about a week. This might vary from location to location. The packaging was quite damaged upon delivery, but the bicycle was not. I was able to assemble the bike by myself within about 45 mins. The bike comes with clear instructions and all the tools needed to assemble at home without extra tools. The bike was solidly built with no manufacturing defects noticed upon assembly or riding. I left the bike to charge for 24 hours to avoid issues before the first ride.First issue: My first issue with the bicycle came after the first ride. I took a 10-mile ride around the neighborhood to test it out. I did not go off-roading and stayed on paved roads and bikeways. At some point during the ride, I went over a goat head that I later discovered punctured my rear tire just. The goat head was big enough to give me a flat. It was then that I discovered how complex and difficult it would be to try to either patch or replace the inter tube if this flat was more severe. I went to Walmart to get a sealant (the fat tire took two containers to completely seal the puncture because the fat tire was too big). I recommend using Ultra Instant Bike Tire Inflator Sealer as it worked for me, and I got my tire back to riding status.Frankly, I think these tires should be more resistant to punctures due to the rear tire's complex setup and the motor placed on the wheel. The Ride: The ride was extremely enjoyable, and the pedal assist was amazing. I rode 10 miles on the first ride and barely broke a sweat. The battery dropped about 20% on the first ride. I occasionally used the throttle during the ride but mainly rode on the pedal assist level 2. The bike has 5 levels of pedal assist, with the 3rd-5th level feeling almost as if you're only riding on the electric motor. I average about 20-25 mph when using level 3 and gear 5. The throttle gives you a nice acceleration and maxes out at 20 mph when riding on flat roads. Uphill, about 15 mph. I would guess that if I only used the battery to ride around I might get 20 miles out of one charge.Charging: I've had to charge the bike once since the first ride. I noticed that the battery charge fluctuates heavily when left outside in high heat. We have been experiencing 100+ degree days, which has created issues when riding, normally draining the battery significantly during usage. Other than that, charging is relatively quick. I could get about 40% of battery in under 2 hours of charging. As mentioned in the listing, the battery detaches, which is useful when working in an office setting or needing a charge while you accomplish some errand. My overall recommendation is to NOT get the fat tire model of this bike. If you get the mountain bike version, you have more flexibility to get tubeless tires or more durable tires, plus you will have more selection available to you. Another factor that I did not take into consideration is the replacement of the tubes or tires when required. The front tire is easily detached and replaced, but the rear tire will be a little more complex. With that said, I recommend this bike. If you buy it, make sure you have sealant available when you inevitably get a puncture.
