Below are some critical reviews about Mongoose Freestyle Beginner Level Advanced 20 InchThe L500 in chrome and green arrived in good condition, and was fairly easy to assemble. However, right out of the box the freecoaster hub was stuck and would not release. I was able to get the hub to release, but it continued to intermittently stick and not freecoast. So I called Customer service and they said they would send me a replacement wheel, which sounded terrific, but they didn't have one to send for at least a couple months. I could take it to a repair shop, but they would only cover $50 for the repair, if it could be repaired. I inquired maybe it just needed to be adjusted, but there is no repair or adjustment or assembly information they could provide. I would have liked to keep it, but the bike has been returned. If it had a cassette hub instead, there likely would have been no issue. I actually think I was lucky, because it would have been worse if it failed a little later.
DO NOT BUY. ITEM IS DANGEROUS.As stated in previous reviews, the handlebars are not stable and rotate in the stem. This is very dangerous, as the rider could fly over the handlebars and injure themselves. I contacted Mongoose support over 4 times and they refuse to help without "video evidence." I do not think a company should ask a customer to risk injury on defective equipment, just so they will consider a remedy.
pick this legion l500 to get back into doing street park riding. still rock out my 1983 californian. just dont want to wreck it. the only issue i have is the freecoaster hub. it doesnt unload for fakie so smooth. gotta take it apart and maybe add some grease. forward peddle is perfect. no crazy engagement there. bike is def built good. at least for the l500 that i know of. being 230 pound old man it took the hard hits and crashes really well. havent done a park style ride in maybe 10 years so it took the abuse in the bowl, halfpipe and some jumps and drops. just re torqued all the bolts. kinda expected. even with a $6000 mtb bike you should go everything after a ride or 2. in my opinion, they should drop the price at least 50 bucks. there are other top quality bikes built the same below or around this. i would have given the legion l500 4 to 5 stars if it wasnt for the freecoaster hub issue.

The bike is great in all aspects, but the handle bars have paint on the part where it tightens down, so it slips a lot if you push to much
This bike is expensive but it’s very well made and my son loves it. He got the chrome and it is very nice looking!!!
first of all - i got this bike for an "steal" open box - $320.00 prime - so my review is kinda skewed -but indeed if you can get this bike for <$500 or <$400 - i would submit it is the best pound for pound -yes i hear you - they sell mongoose at walmart (no doubt) - but look at the specs -chromolly frame, forks, and handlbars, double walled rims, integrated head bearings, pivot seattry to find this on any other "branded" bike - PK Ripper,GT, WTP, Cult, Subrosa, and Kink (on a side note the Kink Whip) is about as close as one can come - but the 2022 models are gone and now the 2023 models are $529.00again - my review is a bit skewed - as frankly i got an open box steal - indeed box was damaged - but bike was 100% new -look i aint no serious rider - just enjoying my inner 12 year oldon side note (being 5-8) - for me the seat post is a wee low at 270 mm - so i ordered a 320mm to replace itbut again no major tricks here - just street cruising - so each to their own... cheersUPDATE !! - price today 8-23-22 ($382.00) - not prime - but indeed pick this steal up !!!!again pound for pound - compare the specs to any other BMX on Amazon or and other BMX bikes -GT, Redline, WTP, Subrosa, Cult - you simply cannot do any better !!!
