Reviews

Below are some critical reviews about Hatch Baby Machine Monitor Nightlight

I am giving it one star because of the level of disappointment and cost. The features that work well are very cool, but those features are worth $30-40 at the very most, not $95 (incl. tax) I am a very tired parent that had very high hopes for this device, and I am so sad to have to write this review.Pros:-The color and sound programming are neat, but they are available on the original model.- battery and clock are good additionsCons:-The two way radio is the reason we got it, and it was so slow that it was entirely ineffective. It had a 2-4sec delay that made it so I couldn't respond to my daughter immediately or hear her immediate response, so what is the point?? My daughter got out of bed or repeated herself three or four times (eventually yelling and waking up her brother), thinking I hadn't heard her. I couldn't respond until it was too late because I was watching a loading symbol spin in a circle.-Colors were inconsistent in hue as you changed to low-brightness. My daughter picked out a color that she liked, and then when I changed the brightness so that it wouldn't keep her up all night, the color would change. It was impossible to keep a stable color and change brightness.-Another problem with the monitor function: if you are using the sound machine function at the same time, you can't hear anything through the monitor because it does not filter out the sound machine sound. So, the white noise was deafening through the monitor and I could barely understand my daughter. Cheap baby monitors know how to tune out white noise.I have a feeling this product was released before it was ready. It could be amazing if they fix some major glitches.Update: we still use this 1 year later, because my daughter got attached to it and we decided not to return. I have reached out to Hatch+ support a couple of times to see if these issues can be improved/fixed, but I have gotten very unhelpful answers that completed miss the point (e.g., did you try turning if off and back on? Did you turn down the sound machine and see if you can hear better?). My recommendation 1 year later: buy your kid a cheaper nightlight so they get attached to that and not a $95 one that doesn't perform the advertised functions well.

I bought this specifically for the time to rise feature for my two year old who we are trying to train not to get up too early. I really like the concept and features but for $90 this could do ALOT more and be more customizable. For one thing there are preset profiles (light and colors) you can use but you cannot change the preset profiles. I should be able to create my own profiles to use when I want. Yes you can set three programs (rise, nap and sleep). But I just want to randomly use a profile I like any time during the day (like when I’m trying to train my two year which color is for wake and which is for light) I have go through and set it up each time. Also you can’t turn the clock off and it’s bright! So bright I cover it at night because it keeps my son up/distracted. There also should be a remote to use near the device. I personally do not keep my phone attached to me especially when I’m using this thing (night and early morning hours when I’m in PJs). It so inconvenient to have to go downstairs to get my phone just to control this thing. There are buttons for volume and brightness on it but they are hard to find on the back of the machine and just a pain in the middle of the night when it’s dark. Also this is not Hatch’s fault but after a month my son is not changing his early rising behavior at all. Just saying it’s not a miracle worker. Hopefully with time and more training it helps but we’ve yet to see results. Lastly for this price, why wasn’t this a bluetooth speaker too? I mean come on! $90 should have allowed you to play or upload your own music (lullabies or whatever) to it. For the next baby I’m going with something where the cost matches the features a little better.

The Hatch Rest and Rest+ are great products that combine several baby/kid gadgets in one. I love the idea. And I wanted to love the Rest+, but it fell short for me. I struggle to understand why they replaced the Bluetooth connectivity with WiFi, as opposed to adding it so you can choose. I learned that the connection does not work over hotel WiFi, even under my room’s unique login, so I had no other way to use the Rest+ except manually. That makes it not as fit for travel as it advertises. Also, our WiFi went out at home temporarily, and when it came back on the Rest+ froze. It told me to set up the WiFi all over again, but the unit wouldn’t respond to any of the button combinations. I had to let the battery run out to get it to turn off. For $30-40 more than the original Rest, I’m not sure you gain enough to cover what you lose. If I had an infant, the Rest+ features would probably be more useful. I ended up returning this and will go back to the original Rest.

Below are some positive reviews about Hatch Baby Machine Monitor Nightlight

Owners of original baby rest but the aux input had finally had to much wear/damage to it so we needed to replace. After much time spent reading reviews I finally decided to upgrade to the Rest +. The features seemed worth it to me. I love the clock (you have the option to dim or turn off I don’t know what people are complaining about here). I love all the things about the original rest like setting programs and customizing favorites (yes you can customize favorites you just have to play around with it). I don’t think the noise is too loud or too soft as I can turn it up/down however much I like and we definitely don’t have it at Max level but most mornings it blocks out the sound of a loud truck starting next door. The monitor (audio) works well enough. The only downside is the WiFi connection is not that great. However customer service is FANTASTIC so if you ever have any issues just let them know and they get back to you really fast. That’s my reason for 4 stars is the WiFi issue but after speaking with customer service it’s working again and if something happens I know what to do. Overall, highly recommend!

I have the original Rest and really like using it as a nightlight and sound machine. Bought the new version so I could have the clock and don't have to look at my phone. I have a hard time sleeping in complete silence so I figured I would upgrade from leaving a fan on all night. I personally like the forest and white noise sounds the most. The touch ring on the top makes it easy to turn on and off, which is nice for when I get up in the middle of the night. I have prime and I got it the same day which was awesome! Tried it out last night and am loving it so far

I will get to the point. This thing is not cheap. Being frugal, I thought it was so unecessary. We started out with a $17 sound machine and the lullabies on it sounded sad and depressing. So, for 3 months we heard ocean waves and white noise. The problem was every time my small dog barked or our garage door opened, my baby would wake up. It was starting to affect my mental health and one sleepless night I went to a parents forum and said someone help me. Immediately person after person said Hatch Rest. So many that I had to know.It. Is. Magic. Do not ask me why or how but this is the sound machine of our dreams. The ability to connect to it remotely, program it and then when she is old enough wake train/alarm is really amazing. We did not buy a lot of extravagant things and I do not think you need half of what is marketed to new parents but this completely changed my work from home life and I think it was worth every penny.
