Reviews

Below are some critical reviews about Ebikeling Universal Torque Electric Bicycle

Installed this on my bike according to ebikeling's video, made sure all the connections were tight - however, within half an hour of casual riding, the motor had proceeded to completely ignore the arm, rotate in the axle, and bent the dropouts on the front fork to the point of failure! Luckily, the wheel did not completely fail while I was riding it - as that is a dangerous situation going at 20-30 mph. But now my bike needs a new fork, which costs more than the price of not only this torque arm, but other models of torque arms that are better quality. In addition, after it failed, I discovered that the original designers of these torque arms, Grin Technologies... if you go to their website and go to their Torque Arm page... it mentions that this particular design of torque arm ("v1") was discovered to not work well enough to prevent high powered motors (as most cheap kits now are, between 500-1000w) from breaking dropouts. They no longer sell this version for that reason. Perhaps if you have a beefy steel fork, you'll be alright, but, then again, one has to consider if a price break is worth more or less than safety.

This was installed along with another one on the other side and my bike is completely ruined. The customer service people said what happened is not possible. We have photos that prove otherwise. BUYER BEWARE!Wanted to update this review with photos and details of my interaction. My husband reached out to the seller and was told this was impossible. They reached out to do more "research" after my review. I provided all information. They concluded that my bike was old and that is why this happens. They are very confident that this will not happen on the new replacement bike that I've ordered! The bike was brand new and was used once before the kit was installed. It immediately failed after installation. Either the torque arm or kit caused the bike to be ruined. We took the bike to a repair shop and the bike shop said it cannot be repaired. I reported all of this to the seller and their exact words were this."Even though it's in new condition, bike frame's material play a big role while converting your bike to an ebike. The forks should be strong material to absorb force. Like steel for example, Steel is flexible and can absorb force. On the other hand, there are a lot of frame's and fork's out there that can shatter and fail to absorb the torque."They should include this in all their literature and sales material.

I bought 2 of these to assemble a FWD and a RWD eBike builds. The hose clamp is too long for either bike, and it's a very weak/cheap hose clamp. It won't last long, get a good one the right length. One kit was missing the bolt and the special washer. The bolt included is an allen head non-plated, unlike what is shown. It will most likely rust. You really need to make a steel strap like you see on a coaster brake for this to work correctly.Even if you get all that together you could run into problems with fender mount tabs interfering with the pivot bolt. And for some 1000w+ hub drives, the clearance could be an issue at the pivot bolt. For these two bikes I will have to make my own design. So I put these kits on the shelf for future projects.

Don't even think about using a front-wheel motor on a bike or trike without installing one of these. TWO, if possible. Without one of these, the torque of the motor will quite likely twist out the fork drop outs - the slot where the square axle rides. There are many demos and instructions that don't mention this. This is a good low-cost solution, but still needs some caution. The hose clamp can rip out. If your dimensions will allow it, you should replace these with a size that provides the maximum possible length of solid clamp strap and as little as possible length of slotted portion.

I installed one on each side of the forks on my father's adult e-tricycle with 250w hub motor. Curiously, his bike did not come with them. After about 3-4 months of use, the torque from them motor opened the cradle end of the forks allowing the shaft to spin. I did a little internet research and found these torque arms on Amazon. Package was delivered quickly and was easy to install (after watching a YouTube video on installation). His forks use small diameter tubing and the provided clamp was made for fairly large tubing. So, I used two smaller clamps that I had in my garage. The larger ones would have worked, but I would have had to cut the excess length of strap from the clamp. Overall, I'm very satisfied and my father is pleased to be able to ride his bike around the park. At 92 years old, the motorized tricycle is a real blessing.

A torque arm is a safety precaution to keep your wheel physically attached to your fork or frame should the hub bolts, QR, or Thru Axle ever become loose enough to cause a potential disconnect from the bike. Especially for an E-Bike with the added torque of a hub motor. This item is simple, but came with no assembly directions or suggestions.
