Reviews

Below are some critical reviews about Royce Union 21 Speed Mountain Aluminum

I originally wrote a five star review for this bike, and then ordered a second one from Amazon warehouse at about half the listed price. The reason why the second warehouse model had been returned in the first place, and then listed as used/open box, was that they had put the wrong fork on the bike in the factory, and the people who got it the first time had scratched up the front end trying to fit the wheel on, but to no avail as I quickly saw, so I had to repack the bike into the box, an extremely annoying thing to have to do, and contact Amazon which is picking it up and giving me a full refund (hopefully), but this was a major inconvenience. I gather that Amazon warehouse people don't have the time to check to see whether the bike is actually all there or that the right parts are there, but, this was very annoying, so I am now giving it three instead of fine stars. In the meantime, I have realized that the tires on this bike are substandard, though they would probably last several years of hard use. Here is the five star original review: What they don't tell you in the description is that these tires are VERY wide, about 2.37 inches, and they are indeed knobby, so as any experienced bike enthusiast will tell you, this is an off-road bike, maybe even a snow bike, for up to 4-6" of snow, but it is not going to be a great urban commuter, since the width and knobbiness of the tires will make it a bit slow on asphalt or cement. However, on dirt roads, or dirt trails, and smash bang downhill mountain biking, these tires will rock and rule. My bike arrived in pristine condition.

It is as advertised, and about what I expected. The fit seems like it will be perfect, but cannot be 100% sure until I fix some issues. The assembly was pretty straight forward and not too trublesome once i got the cables untangled from the handlebars. The front tire was completely deflated and the rubber tire was out of whack. I am uncertain if the tubing is bad/faulty as I have not yet attempted to inflate it. The most disappointing part is that there are scratches on my handlebar stem. It looks like either it was banged around during packaging, or my fear, that someone may have attempted to assemble it and returned it for some reason. The handle breaks and shifters are in completely wrong locations for my preference and I went to adjust these and the bolts are way too tight. They should have left these loose so that they could be positioned to personal preference. The derailleur seems to actually be pretty close with needing only a few tweeks. I will say I probably could have gotten away with the 20" frame, but being as tall as I am, i didn't want to risk being too uncomfortable to enjoy my new bike! I am just now getting back into the sport and know that I ideally measure for a 21" frame, but these are expensive and extremely hard to come by. Overall I am happy with my purchase and will be even more so once I have it fine tuned and to my personal preferences.

I ordered this bike for my son to use for transportation on his college campus and within less than 3 weeks it was useless. He had problems with the seat not staying tightened after using the wrench that came with it as well as gears not changing properly. Then one day the handle bars loosened so much that he had to carry his bike back to his apt...oh and one of the pedals fell off! Very stressful for him and a complete waste of money for me as he had thrown out the original box to return it. Unbelievable!

Below are some positive reviews about Royce Union 21 Speed Mountain Aluminum

The bike is fantastic: very quiet, gears and brakes are precise but required a bit of adjustment after arrival. WHY DO THEY SELL BIKES WITHOUT KICKSTANDS?!?!? What's the conversation here? "Hey - you want a kickstand?" "No - I'll just throw my bike on the ground when I'm done." On a $280 bike, you can probably charge an additional $10 to allow the bike to exist while stopped. Not like we're asking for a baby bottle milk warmer. geez!

The bike was in remarkably good shape when delivered; considering the box it was shipped in looked like it went through a woodchipper.Assembly took all of 15 minutes and only issue was the seat that ended up bending at the post mount. Luckily I had an extra and just swapped it over and it's been great since. Puta lot of miles on it so far and no problems whatsoever.

I bought for my husband. He uses it daily. He had to promptly replace the seat since this one was not comfortable. You have to buy kick stand separately.
