Reviews

Below are some critical reviews about Mongoose BMX Bicycles Legion BMX

Very solid BMX bike! A bit heavier than I thought it would be, but not as heavy as some of the other Mongoose bikes out there with solid steel rims, steel frames, and front brake systems that you normally find at department stores (i.e. Walmart, Target, Toys R' Us, etc.). I did shed a little weight by removing the front brake and handlebar brake mechanism (yes, it does come with a front brake even though the picture does not show one). But, overall, it feels solid and not cheap. Almost feels like a Pro bike - ALMOST!Assembly took about an hour and a half to do, only because to take off the front brake, you have to remove the handlebar grip - and oh my sweet gosh, that was a PAIN! But, once off, I easily removed the brake and then excruciatingly put the grip back on. I hated that. Good solid grips though, for sure! Hahaha! As far as what comes on the bike and what doesn't...basically, everything comes assembled and tightened except for:• Handlebars (rear brake does come assembled and attached already though)• Front Tire/Rim (inner tube w/ air inside included for Front and Rear Tire however)• Seat/Seat Post• PedalsOh yeah, and there's no Kickstand included, nor is there a mount to "Frankenstein" one on there either. Kinda sucks, but I'm ok with leaning it or flipping it upside down to park it. But, if you need a kickstand, you'll have to buy a clamp-on one or see if you can install a mount from a local bike shop (if available). As mentioned earlier, inner tubes do already come pre-installed and they do have air in them - but not enough to ride around. You will still have to put air in the tires. The PSI level is 35PSI-60PSI. I put 55PSI in there, as they were rock-solid at that level. Also, for those of you who are wondering how loud it is - when riding idle, it makes a nice moderately loud cassette sound. Not too loud, but certainly not quiet. But, loud enough that if it's quiet around you - people WILL hear you coming, but if it's loud like on a sidewalk besides heavy traffic, you won't be heard unless you're about 6-7 ft away from someone (which is really close). To sum it all up, this bike is STELLAR! It's beautiful. The white-on-red really pops and is unique. I got a compliment riding past someone just 2 minutes from taking it for a test ride. If you wanna "ball on a budget", then you're at the right place - so long as you're okay with the aforementioned Cons. Me? I'm happy as heck! I'm a huge fan of Mongoose. I decided to name this lovely lady, Marshmello! ;-)

My son has had this sturdy bike for a few years already and it still looks great! The look of the bike is great and my son loves it. It feels a little bit heavy but I guess it brings the sturdyness to survive a boy biking.

As several others have said, the brakes aren't great, at least for younger kids. They have a "detangler" feature that allows the handlebars to spin completely around. But that also means less of the motion from the brake handle actually gets to the brake itself. I've adjusted and re-adjusted and finally I ended up just removing the whole cable assembly and replacing it with a regular, single brake cable. I'm sure weaker brakes are just kind of the nature of the beast for "freestyle" bikes with detanglers, but my 8-year old isn't going to be spinning his handlebars 360 degrees, and the brakes were bad enough to be a bit dangerous. Otherwise, seems like a good bike for the money. For what it's worth, I'm basically the opposite of an over-protective parent, and I'm also reasonably handy.
