Please when ordering this bike have a professional check the breakline and break handle before letting your child or loved one ride it. My 11 year old son worked very hard for several months saving up money to purchase this bike only to be let down twice and end up with some pretty bad concrete burn on his knees, elbows and hands. We are on our second bike of this model because the first ones break line was too short to finish assembly so Amazon picked that one up and sent us another one. (that arrived 2 days later then promised) When we received the second one we were able to complete assembly but when my son tried to ride it for the first time he had a pretty bad crash caused from the faulty breakline. When he tried to pull the break handle the breakline ripped through the handle which caused the breaks not to work and since he was unable to stop the bike he crashed. I took the bike to the same bike shop I had taken the first one and they said that the bike was assembled correctly and that they were able to see where the breakline ripped through the break handle and that should not have ever happened. They also sais that since this was the second bike that I had brought to them with this same issue that there must be something wrong at the manufaturer with the breaklines for this bike model. So again, if you purchase this bike make sure you check and double check the safety features on this bike before anyone rides it.

Overall the bike is pretty decent. My son and I had a VERY hard time putting the handlebars on because the instruction pamphlet shows a completely different style of brakes/handlebar configuration so we had to guess. Also, possibly a piece or insert missing in the handlebars. We assembled as instructed. My son was riding and the handlebars turned down, stopped the wheel, and he was thrown off his bike. Not sure what to do now...will probably have to take to a bike shop to get it repaired if possible. I would not recommend this bike. I feel like I wasted the money.

We bought this bike for our 12 year old son last Christmas. Assembly was pretty straight forward but tightening nuts to hold pegs required a deep well socket and extension. Also front and back nuts are different sizes. You’ll need a 5/8” and 3/4” deep well socket and extension to go into peg to tighten.Initially the bike was great although a bit heavy. We had 2 flat tires in the first 3 weeks but I chalk that up to my son riding over some thorns.Last week the chain snapped and I’m hoping to find a replacement soon. My son was bummed. Overall, the bike looks great but we’ve had issues with the tires, brakes and now a broken chain. I’m hopeful the manufacturer will see this and help me find a replacement chain.

I’m 16 and just switched from skateboarding to BMX and this was basically the perfect purchase!I’m 6’5 so obviously it’s a little small but nothing taller bars can’t fix.ProsThe frame, forks, and cranks are really strong and I don’t see myself breaking them anytime soon.ConsI bent the bars on the second day but that was user error ;)Pedals suckThe stem is ehOverall it’s probably the best bike you can get for the money. Would buy again.

Pros: best config you can get at this price range. Chromoly frame, fork and handlebar, sealed bearing for front and rear hub, freecoaster rear hub. (other brand like WTP, fly kink may cost you double for this config). Easy to assembly (just install the handlebar, padel, front wheel and seat). It come with a U brake and is suitable to install Gyro, but I took off the brake cos I run brakeless at park.Cons: Made in China by pacific bicycle, and 21 inch frame (suitable for 5'11 or above I guess).

I have the Mongoose L500 and the Bike came quicker than expected. I was excited to assemble it so I drug the box into the garage and started assembling it. Assembly requires a 6mm Allen wrench for the handle bars front whee and steering stem. A 4mm Allen wrench for the seat post and a 15mm open end wrench for the pedals. Other than that a Phillips head screwdriver is optional to remove the chain protector. It’s a simple assembly job that will take 15-20 minutes.I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this bike again. I have a 600$ Hoffman bike that I bought back in 2003 and this Mongoose L500 is a lot lighter and the parts and welds on the bike seem higher quality.I don’t know what the other people’s issues were assembling the bicycle but it was simple as long as you have the correct tools and a basic understanding of mechanics. Otherwise give your local bike shop some business and have them assemble it for you.
