As I understand it these are not needed on most rear wheel motor applications but my frame does not have steel dropouts.My bike has a 28 year old bonded aluminum frame with cold forged aluminum rear dropouts. It's about as tough as aluminum gets but it's still aluminum. I really like this bike and it is irreplaceable. I put one of these on each side just in case. Sometimes a healthy dose of paranoia will save you a lot of grief. In case this e-bike experiment doesn't work out, I don't want to do anything that can't be undone.Anyway, it's a chunk of medium-hard steel with some heft. It should hold up.
