Reviews
Below are some positive reviews about BAFANG Assembly Battery Electric ConversionI'm installing this kit on a Radwagon for an all wheel drive setup; front geared, original rear direct drive. Now the bike gives me the climbing ability that I needed. I've installed several geared hubs and BBSxx mid-drive motors in the past so this installation was pretty simple. I didn't even bother with the instructions. If you need the follow the instructions, just be sure to install only the left or right PAS. You don't need both.I have this kit running on a 52v battery. The only gripe I have with the kit is possibly the software programming. Throttle power seem to be limited based on the assist or speed. Would preferred for throttle to just increase from min to max power as you push down. It should be independent of assist setting. I rarely use the throttle so its not deal breaker.5/1/2020So far the kit seems to be running fine. If you want max power with throttle, you'll need to set it to the highest level (5). On hills, the motor kicks in and provides more power if I'm providing less so as to maintain my current speed. Once I get up to the max speed for that level, the motor cuts off without any noticeable drop off in speed. The programming seems better than the BBSxx mid-drive kits that I also have.4/13/2021Kit still seems to be running strong. It did start to make a metal/whining noise about 1 month in when I was riding at assists higher than 2. Its was noisy enough that I didn't use it on the bike paths. I finally decided to open up the motor (6 bolts) and saw a metal bit not attached to anything. A metal bit came off the spindle and was being thrown around. I super-glued it back in its seat and regreased the nylon gears with Mobile 1 Mobilegrease 28 aviation grease. The metal bit looks like it engages the disc holding the nylon gears. The motor is quiet again.I haven't ridden it much but have put 281 miles on it.
Order came pretty quickly. The parts are somewhat cheap so it felt like I was downgrading the road bike that I was installing this onto it. You’ll need several specialty bike tools to install the PAS sensors that do not come with the kit. This is probably a Medium difficulty conversion. Took me about a day to finish but could be finished in a few hours if you already have the tools and are used to working on bikes. Nothing too crazy, but not for the faint of heart. Lastly, be sure to check the parts that come in the box. My order is missing the display which renders the bike useless so I’m stuck with a fully assembled e-bike and no way to ride it. I’ve reached out to the seller but there has been no response yet.Edit: the controller finally came in a third box. So the battery, wheel, and controller all come in separate packages. I’ve put 75 miles on my bike this week and have inly charged it twice. Using the 48v 17.5ah battery. Top speed gets me to about 30 mph but the law limits me to 20 so I’m running it slower than it could go. Wish there was a hookup for a rear break light. Might have to splice one onto the headlight wires. Overall happy but this kit could be better. Giving it 4/5 stars never did hear back from the seller so don’t expect any support if you need it.
Easy to install and unexpected strong power output. Surely there are a lot of space to improve such as providing c-washers and crank puller and a better design of battery mounting. If I knew it’s that complicated/challenging to mount the battery using the bottle holder screws, I will definitely choose the rare rack battery.
