Below are some critical reviews about Hiland Inch Mountain Aluminum BlackThe box was damaged when the bike arrived. Upon assembly, we noticed scratches to the frame, which we were willing to overlook. However, the derailer and derailer mount were both bent, making the bike nonfunctional. I’m incredibly disgusted because this was supposed to be my sons birthday gift in four days, just in time for us to take it on vacation. Amazon was not able to send me replacement parts, the best they could do was a replacement bike in two weeks. I figured spending over $400 on a bicycle would make it a quality product but apparently not.
I bought this 40 days ago, so I have been using it probably 1 month. I bike like 1 every 2 days during the weekdays to commute: it is not even long distance, only 1.6 miles one-way...Unfortunately I would not recommend this bike.On the first day I assemble it, the tip of the front fork is distorted probably only 0.2 inch, BUT the front wheel could not fit in at all... I decided to use a wrench and hammer to bend it a little bit 0.2 inch... And it is STEEL and it is omg VERY hard... normally if I had been in bike shop I would have to use flame to heat it...On the second day the tap on the left handlebar unpeeled it self. Well I am a nice person and I know how to replace tapes and this is a piece of cake so I can buy something 20 dollar in amazon and wrap it again myself....This bike is indeed very light. But THINK: usually light weight bikes are made of aluminum or carbon fiber... but this one is made of steel? ... so I guess... maybe they make the steel very thin?And then today... 30 days after, 1 of the pads in the rear break fell off. I do not know where it fell and I really do not want to buy a new one because this thing costs money again and can be very expensive. Also I know how to replace it but again this is another a lot of work... btw the front break makes strange noise.(Yes the above complaints make no sense if you are rich and just drop everything to a bike repairer, you maybe would not even consider buying this bike...)I used to live in Germany and I used to bike 200+ km up to the Alps with the cheapest 500 euro bike. I was very surprise to find bikes costing 100+ dollar in the United States... I know biking is very expensive and the components and repairing can be one time easily over 300+ euros. But this one adds up a little bit faster than expected and does expect you to know how the repairing works... It does remind me the 25 dollar bike in 2000 when I bought when I was still in China.If you care about the environment and how much waste we produce each day, do NOT buy this bike.It has 3 stars because it indeed looks good and I am planning to fix it. I hope the company reads this and make better products in the future.
This bike out of the box is going to require major adjustments. The front brake rubs the brake mechanism and the gears don’t shift properly. I may adjust my review after I have some time to see how effective adjustments are. The bike itself seems nice and the tires and wheels seem good. There was a ding in the finish as seen in pic. Overall I would expect more from a $400 bike that for some may need a trip to the bike shop for adjustments.

I bought this Bike for my Wife. At first I was skeptic to order this Bike but I took a chance since shipping was Prime and Free returns but when I got it I was surprise how good it looks and it's well made. I would recommend that once you get it put it together the best you know how and then take it to the Bike shop for tune-up and check for any loose nuts n' bolts and after that you're all set. We've been riding all over NY making 20-30 miles everyday and get a lot of compliments on it. I've read the reviews and people say that they cannot contact Hiland customer support which is not true, I've contacted them twice already and have received response/help the next day and they're very responsive.I've had the Bike since June 15th so I'll try to update the review as I go.
First of all, I'll say that I did not have grand aspirations for this bike. I was looking for a modest, entry level mountain bike for some casual riding to get me off the couch while nursing a running injury. That being said, I have ridden about 20-25 miles so far (all VERY rough trails in Texas hill country -- rocks, roots, climbs, etc) and feel like this bike is worth every penny spent.#1. Build quality -- the build quality is decent for an entry level bike. Make sure you tighten everything up (I made a lot of adjustments anyway -- handlebar location, seat positioning etc so tightening everything up was part of the process of getting it ready for ME to ride.) --- NOTE: The chain SNAPPED within 1/4 mile of first riding -- fortunately I had read someone else's review and recognized that this may be a weak link (pun intended) and had already picked one up at the local bike shop. Quick change and we were off and running.#2. Adjustments -- as you can (or at least SHOULD) expect. You will need to make some adjustments to the derailleur and brakes. This thing ships from China... it will need some tweaks after all the banging around.#3. Look and feel -- this bike handles very well. I'm a beginner but I've ridden enough to know how a bike should feel and this one (while it could be better) isn't bad at all. It's actually a pretty good ride (keep in mind you need to adjust the thing to fit YOU, don't just jump on it and expect it to adjust itself to you).#4. Braking -- yeah, this is a weak point. They are cheap components and could definitely be better, I still haven't gotten them quite right. Likely replace the pads soon.Overall --- this is well worth the $250 or so. Great base to build off of. If I get "deeper" into the mtb lifestyle I may level up, but for now, this is a good bike for what I am looking to do.
Just assembled this out of the box. Was impressed with the frame...good looking welds, very solid tubing, etc. Didn't realize the frame would have mounting pegs on it for old-school "squeezer" brakes on the back...so those look a little odd sitting there, but no big deal.I think a lot of the complaints that people have about this bike they'd wind up having about any bike bought online that required assembly and adjustment - you don't just slap the front wheel on and go. That's not how this works...that's not how any of this works.You HAVE to adjust the derailleurs, and the brakes. Period. If you expect them to be set exactly where they need to be out of the box, you are wrong. With this bike, and any other bike that shows up on your doorstep in a box.If you don't have the basic mechanical skills and aptitude to adjust these things (and there's nothing wrong with you if you don't - not everyone is a mechanic and/or handyman), then don't expect to set this bike up by yourself. That's all there is to it.If you're not completely on-board with assembling the bike and adjusting both derailleurs and both brakes, then either buy a bike from a local dealer (where all of that is done for you) or plan on having someone else assemble and adjust the bike...like maybe that local dealer.And sure...you'll have to pay them to do that. That's the tradeoff for not struggling through it yourself and winding up with a bike that doesn't shift right, maybe breaks chains, has brakes that don't work, etc. Granted the price of this bike, the components on it aren't top-shelf...but there's nothing fundamentally wrong with any of it - you just have to set it up right. A bicycle is not like a toaster that you just take out of the box and use.
