Below are some critical reviews about RALEIGH Detour Step Thru ComfortWe purchased this $300 Chinese-made Raleigh because it offered various frame sizes - important for a shorter rider - and I like the white/green color combo. Like all mail-order bikes, it needs assembly. The front wheel, saddle, handlebars and pedals go on easy; fitting and adjusting the brake cables is a little more complicated. Overall, the quality and weight appear good. Decent frame welds and paint job; nice 7-speed gears (single front crank) with twist control; brakes rims, saddle all OK. Be aware, you're going to need fenders (+ $30 on Amazon) and a rear rack or handlebar basket (+ $25) to make this a useful all-rounder. After buying the Raleigh, I found competitors for the same-or-less cost and they included all those extras. That explains the four stars.
Perfect for me! It's actually much prettier than in the picture. It's not a flat white, more like a shiny white, but very discrete. Being a short adult, I didn't wanna buy a kid's bike, but this one (size XS) was the exact size I was looking for. Comfortable and easy to ride around the city. Much better quality than what you find for the same price or higher prices at Academy, Target, Walmart, etc.
Mistakenly thought the bike was broken when I was putting it together lol. Any way, it was super easy to put together, only took about 15 minutes. It didn't come with instructions, I had to download the instructions from Raleigh's web site. I didn't give 5 stars because the bike sells for $299 at all the bike shops and on Raleigh's website which is a bit over-priced for the quality. This bike should be priced around $199, or $219 at most. Amazon has it on sale for $239 which is a bit closer to what it should be priced at. This is not a $300-quality bike. I paid $179 though Amazon Warehouse deals because the box had been damaged. However the bike is in excellent condition, looks new. I found no issues, not even any cosmetic imperfections. I'm taking her out for a ride in the morning. If anything changes, I'll update.
