Below are some critical reviews about Redline Bikes BMX Race CruiserI rode this bike gently for about 4 months, was pretty happy with it.Then the crank failed when going up a hill. The left crank arm started wobbling and fell right off, leaving me with a nice long walk home. The crank bolt was lost.Inspecting things at home it was clear why it failed. The crank spindle is way too short on the left side, and barely makes contact with half the thread on the left crank arm (see picture). This is either a gross assembly error, or awful engineering. I can get a replacement bolt, but this is doomed to fail again.I've contacted Redline support and am currently waiting for a reply.Edit: support acknowledged that this is likely an assembly error at the factory (the spindle is not centered, leaving too little on the left side), but offered no help whatsoever.Update: Bought replacement bolts, looked at some Youtube videos to learn how these things are put together, and armed with a hammer and some wood blocks centered the spindle in the cranks. Also removed one of the spacer rings to get a little bit more contact area, and put everything back together. Still going strong after a few more months of riding.
With excitement I purchased Redline’s PL 26 BMX cruiser. I’m not new to the bike arena but to Redline. Upon opening the cartoon and removing the partially assembled bike I noticed some deep scratches. The packaging was a mixed bag. Some bubble wrap, some stiff carton paper then that real thin and brittle stuffing paper. They need to address the high probability of metal to metal contact and use the appropriate packaging. The goose neck had a deep gash, contact between the spokes and forks and quality and control on decal application was overlooked. Am I going to return it no. It’s made for shredding and scratches will happen. I want to be responsible for the scratches and cool story about. It’s not cool story when asked and your reply is, yeah that was from shipping. If you want a show off bike to cruise the hood, be prepared for some scratches and gouges when you buy.
First, bike looks awesome and is nice. But, after a few rides the front sprocket come apart and was damaged. I called Redline and they sent out a much nicer sprocket and new set of cranks. The new sprocket didnt fit the chain so I called them back and they said they were sending me a new chain and a back tire because the one that was on the bike was clearly a bad tire from the manufacturer. The tread was crooked causing the tire to not spin smoothly and after a few rides it separated where the defect was. Well, I called them numerous times for them to tell me it's being shipped out but I never received anything. So, to go along with my $500 new bike I had to buy a chain that doesnt match like the original one and a new tire. Redline customer service sucks! I wouldn't buy from them again.

I used to ride a RedLine ProLine back in the 80s. Couldn't wait to get this and ride in Florida. I've been riding it a month now, and it is a great ride for 52 year old knees. I get looks from all the college kids I ride by. Just a fun ride.Yes, the seat is hard - answer - don't sit down! It's a great Interval Training workout. Jump some curbs, get 6 inches of air, it's all good.The biggest issue is the sprocket. It's a 6 mm thick sprocket, and it came with a 22mm to 19mm sprocket adapter. This sprocket adapter may covers 2.5 mms of the thickness. In other words, it's just not thick enough for the 6 mm sprocket. I thought I had the cranks tightened down good enough, but apparently not (or the adapter just doesn't reach deep enough). I wore an oval in my sprocket. And it's a b*tch trying to get a replacement, 39T sprocket.Also, the price of the bike dropped by $135 from the time I bought it. That kinda sucks, but now if I end up spending $50 to replace the sprocket, it just adds insult to injury. Still a great ride.UPDATE - I can't get a darn replacement sprocket from Redline/Raleigh. They are sending a different sprocket. I really just hope it works, but trying to find this 'RedLine' brand 39T sprocket (cross) is a pain, apparently RedLine can't even get them.... a bit frustrating, as I go ride again today with a loose sprocket because the adapter was not thick enough to begin with.UPDATE 2: I added some pics. The first is my sprocket after it slipped out of place, with a 'well-tightened' crank. Obviously not tightened enough. BUT, the second pic is the sprocket adapters. The one on the right is the on that came with the RedLine. It just does NOT fit deep enough into the 6 mm thick sprocket. Do yourself a favor, and order the thicker sprocket adapter for $8 found right here on Amazon. I've swapped mine, and I 'think' my chewed up sprocket is now functioning properly without using the non-RedLine replacement sprocket they sent me.
It's a Redline. You don't really need to review them or read the reviews if you ride at your local BMX track because they are everywhere. I'd say that two out of five bikes at our track are Redline. They are the standard where we are at. Why you would pick this PL-26 over a MX-24 is easy. You want to ride at the track but you want to ride around the block comfortably with your kids just as much. The MX-24 with a replacement seat post and saddle is tough to play on. It races really well but the top tube is low so if your close to 6' a pedal around the block isn't comfortable. The PL-26 is! I replaced the 26X2.1 with 26X1.95 and it handles much better for me. I'm looking forward to more track time with it next year. This is the perfect bike for cruising and racing with a 50/50 split on both. The MX-24 is the perfect ride for 70% track and 30% around the block. The red Paint is beautiful I put shorter bars on for better track handling. The larger size is easier on 50 year old knees.
After doing a ton of research on these adult sz BMX bikes, I decided to go w/ this one. Glad I did, bc I LOVE it. Been riding it to and from work for the past 2 wks. When I ride it after work, I find myself trying to think of other places to ride, bc I just want to keep riding. Makes me feel like a kid again. Like other reviewers mentioned, the seat it comes w is terrible, so replace it ASAP w a more comfortable one (I put a gel cover over the new saddle, too.) Replaced the pedals, bc they were too sharp. Also, the brake line sticks out a little too much, but a simple fix. The ride is smooth and even though it’s 28 LBS, it’s still pretty light and agile for its sz. Super stoked w it and would recommend to anyone who’s in the market for a bike as such. I’m 5’9”, 32 inseam and it fits me perfectly. I may buy bigger handlebars later, but the ones it comes w are fine. Easy to assemble, took 30 mins. Go for it, re-live your childhood and do some jumps w this rad Redline! Yew!
