Reviews
Below are some critical reviews about Heybike Cityscape Electric Bicycle Up RemovableUPDATE: It took a while, but the company did reach out to me after I posted this negative review and attempted to make things better.I was given some money back and a complimentary saddlebag. The company also offered to replace the battery, but I had discovered that the battery was fine after all. (You cannot see a charge indicated in the battery unless the key is in the battery lock and turned to the one position). The company also said they would review their manual and work on a new instructional video for putting the bike together that was a bit more detailed and easier to follow.I also hope they work on their quality control and the Customer Service you receive from the Help Line.Overall, I really enjoy the bike itself, but the road to getting it assembled has been long and frustrating. I would advise that you order a bike through a reliable bike shop or be prepared to take it to a professional shop after it arrives to get it assembled unless you are really confident in you skills to put it together or the manual and instruction video are significantly improved.I am including my original review below - including my mistake about the battery - in case someone wants to know what I was dealing with.TL:DR: The Customer Support is terrible, the product was not inspected properly before shipping, the assembly manual is not clear enough and the bike battery won't charge. The instructions for assembly are vague and difficult to follow. When I discovered a problem with the front tire and contacted Customer Support it was apparent that Heybike hires out there support and I got no help. The space in the front wheel where the front axle is supposed to pass through and attach the tire to the bike was blocked with something I could not remove. When I called Customer support the first time, there advise was basically "push harder" while trying to get the axle through. After numerous attempts and a back and forth with support I asked them to send me a new front tire. They refused, saying they didn't have any in stock and I would just have to unblock the tire myself somehow. It took 3 guys from Lowes and a electric drill to clear the tire. The bike has taken me months to put together due to one problem or another. And now it looks as if the bike battery won't charge. DO NOT buy from these people!
Update: The charging port for my cell phone does not work, I tried two different charging cords. Frustrating as this was a big part in why I picked this brand/model.For the money it's hard to find a nicer bike than this. The only complaint, really annoyance I've had is my display screen doesn't light up, I've been out after dusk and have a difficult time seeing the screen.. My husband bought a Himiway for double what I paid, both are nice bikes but I really love the beach cruiser style, only thing I would change aside from the display screen is I wish the beach cruiser came with a 750, 350 is not quite powerful enough to pull my dog carriage for any distance. Still, this is a great bike and I would order it again in a heartbeat.
Bike arrived with a flat tire. Guy who assembled it was not helpful. He did not adjust the handlebars correctly. The guy at the bike shop who repared the flat told me the handlebars were loose and that it was dangerous.
Below are some positive reviews about Heybike Cityscape Electric Bicycle Up Removable
I just looked back at my review and see 'Vine Voice'. Not sure why it is there. My review is non-influenced, and I purchased this on my own.I love this bike! It arrived from FedEx with the bottom of the box un-stapled, and the bike had two minor scuffs that don't bother me. I use my bike for riding on trails, so speed is not my priority although I have had it up to 20.5 mph when peddling. It has trail tires, and I've found that mild off roading is no problem. This bike takes inexpensive, common 26" tires. It is a step through frame, not a girls bike. A step through frame is safer because there is no high bar to get caught on. Just hop forward off the seat to the ground. I got the color white for better visibility against black pavement. Thus far the battery life is fine for me, but I do put it in mode 0 once in a while to get actual exercise. It is easy to pedal in manual mode, the motor has very little drag. The one negative for me is that the seat is not comfortable. It's passable, but not comfortable to me. The suspension seat post (which is adjustable by turning the screw underneath) is not a very high end one, it has maybe an inch of travel and doesn't work as smoothly as high end spring posts. That, combined with the shape of the seat makes an uncomfortable ride. It is a great looking seat though. I have ordered a new seat so I will find out if that solves my issue.Assembly was extremely easy, but I will list things to be aware of:The front brake MUST be adjusted after assembly. It is easy to do, just loosen the caliper, squeeze the brake handle to move the caliper into the correct position and re-tighten while still squeezing the brake. I also shortened the brake handle throw to my liking. The seat post clamp nut has to be tightened with a wrench, it is very hard to turn. The nut is aluminum so it will get wrench marks on it. I almost thought it was not going to get tight enough to hold the seat post, but it did.The locking center hub for the front reflector was hard to find, I dumped the box over and then found it on the floor. It was just loose in the box. Without this little piece, the front reflector can not be attached to the spokes. The chain guard was crooked such that the pedal shank rubbed against it on one spot. One bracket wasn't aligned with the others (see pictures). It was an easy fix, the bracket easily bends by hand to where it should be. I removed the chain guard to do it.The tires were a little under inflated. Inflate them to 50 or 55psi.Two other notes. The throttle over rides pedal assist. That is, the bike goes the speed of the thumb throttle, whether pedaling or not, in the three power modes. And this bike has a thumb throttle which I much prefer over a twist throttle in a bicycle. And 2nd, whenever approaching people walking on trails, it's good practice to put the bike to 0 manual mode as you approach them. This is because one uses the pedals to help balance at slow speed, and if it is in power mode 1,2 or 3, the bike will take off when trying to just slow balance behind them using the pedals and handlebar.
I've had it 2 weeks and ridden 100 miles so time for a first impressions review. I've been an urban cyclist for 20 years, former bike mechanic, had dozens of bicycles.I love this bike, it's exactly what I needed.Pros:UL listed, it's not gonna burn down my house. It's comfortable. I'm 6'2" and it's great. My longest ride was 2.5 hours to test the range and it feels great. It comes with a good rack and mount points for a solid front basket (sold separately, but I recommend it).The kickstand is beefy and stable enough to hold it up while loading.Handles a lot of weight with ease, I routinely exceed the 264lb limit. No surprises during assembly. If you can follow instructions and have passing familiarity with bicycles you'll be fine.Cons:It weighs a ton. It's too heavy for my bike maintenance stand. If you live in an apartment and need to lug a bike up stairs this isn't for you.The tires are fine but the rear is wearing quickly. I was going to replace them with some name-brand flatless tires anyway so this doesn't bug me much. The disc brakes are squealy and LOUD. There's no rub, the calipers are aligned, the rotors aren't bent, and the stopping power is pretty poor so I think the pads are just contaminated with something. Easy fix.19mph max speed is a bit optimistic. On flat ground with empty baskets I get to 16-17 with level 3 PAS. Could be my weight. The hub motor is herky jerky at low speeds which has sent me into a bush once or twice. I got in the habit of dragging the rear brake during low speed maneuvers so the motor doesn't interfere. There's a lot of branding. I like a clean, logoless look and from the pictures I thought the wordmarks were stickers, but they're screen printed on.Conclusion:This is an excellent utilitarian bike, great for city dwellers as a car replacement for commuting and errands.
I have been riding bikes for over 50 years and it gets a little harder as one ages. The Cityscape was purchased to get me back out into the open air. I can ride using the 7 spd gearing, yet if I want assistance it is there at a touch of a button. Ergonomically the seat position relative to the handlebar placement was perfect. I can be more upright, meaning being more comfortable. The battery and motor are powerful and can really propel you down the road. On the technical side - the bike is built solid, disc brakes, wide soft seat, included head and tail lights, an extra usb port for your phone, and I like the placement of the kickstand. It allows the bike to be moved forward or backward with the stand down and the pedals do not hit the stand. I am not an e-bike expert but for the quality and cost you would be hard pressed to find better ride. Their Customer Service responded and answered a question I had the same day. Both the bike and Heybike's Customer Service get 5 stars.
