Reviews
Below are some critical reviews about HH HILAND HIM013bl JM 29A431This is a cheap copy of a nice mountain bike. You get what you pay for. It does the trick, but at a good enough level. This isn't a negative review, just an expectation manager. I would buy again, knowing that the price reflects the bike.
Very poorly made. Frame is super bendy. The break fluid started leaking when I used the front brake. Took it to a couple of bike shops and they said the bike needs a full service a s complete realignment...$200 worth.Save urself the time and buy a proper bike from a good bike shop.
The bike was relatively easy to assemble and I didn't have to adjust the brakes. The frame looks and feels sturdy, however the front forks are a little flimsy. I can twist them with the tire between my legs. The gears rations are fine, however I find that some gears seem "jumpy" under high torque. I'm not sure if that's an adjustment problem or equipment problem. I recommend a third party seat as well. I'm 6'2" and 250 lbs and the seat did not fit well. I'm not a technical or trail rider, mostly neighborhood rides with my kids, so I think this bike will be fine. However, as I get more confident with the bike, I'm afraid the shifter and forks may be it's undoing. Time will tell. If you are looking for a large mountain bike with an aluminum frame for light use and under $500, this is a good purchase.UPDATE!: A few rides in and the rear sprocket broke! Headed to the bike shop for repairs! My last bike's sprocket was replaced for $120 and I expect this to be the same. Now my $500 bike will be a $650 bike!
Below are some positive reviews about HH HILAND HIM013bl JM 29A431
Hi guys. I assembled this bicycle last Wednesday 8/19/20 and I absolutely love it. I think the bicycle looks even more amazing in person. I love the black and gold color combination and I think for the price it's a good deal. I'm giving it 5 stars overall, but I must tell you the assembly was a lot more difficult than I imagined. First I needed to adjust the front hydraulic disc brake since it was off center and the pads were touching the disc on one side without applying the brakes. I had to watch a number of YouTube videos to figure out how to center it. The instruction booklet provided no information on the hydraulic disc brakes that I could find. Secondly, the front gear shifter was not properly tightened so I had to watch some more YouTube videos to figure out how to adjust that. Overall, the assembly part was easy but they did not check the bicycle properly at the factory after doing their assembly portion. Overall, I love my bicycle and now I have everything running smoothly. I would not hesitate to buy it again.
This Hiland mountain bike is surprisingly good! Very high-quality frame with mid to entry-level components. The color is more orange than red, as another reviewer had noted, but I have had more comments on the color in the two days that I have been riding it than on any other bike I have ever owned. It really looks cool and classy! Most of the non-drivetrain components (seatpost, bars, rims, etc.) are "Hiland" branded but are of good quality. Brakes are no-name but work really well with very smooth and secure stopping. For anyone interested, they use mineral oil instead of DOT brake fluid. both are commonly used in hydraulic bike brakes and one is no better than the other, just don't mix them! The drivetrain is SUPER EL CHEAPO! The crank and Shimano derailleurs look more like they belong on a hundred dollar Wally World bike than on a bike of this quality. The ProWheel crank has alloy arms, swaged and riveted steel chainrings (non-changeable) and a plastic cover to make it look like an alloy spider. This will be my first upgrade. But, even though the drivetrain lacks the quality that a bike in this category should have, the gear changes are crisp and precise so I can't really complain too much. The aluminum frame has all internal routing for the derailleur cables and brake line, and the welds are all clean and well-executed. The "Hiland" fork also seems to be pretty decent, with controls for both lock out and preload, and what appears to be about 100mm of travel. Assembly was straight forward and took about an hour from opening the box to riding. I have assembled several "mail-order" bikes from boxes in the past, and this was the easiest to assemble. The wheels were perfectly true right out of the box, and the gears and brakes were perfectly adjusted. Well, hydraulic brakes don't need adjustment, but the derailleurs were perfect. My only complaint, and this is my fault, not the bikes, is that it is borderline too large for me. I'm within the height guidelines for this size bike, but I tend to have a longer torso and shorter legs, so I may have been better-served with the 27.5 in model. But all-in-all I love it. I don't have a lot of miles on it yet, but will, no doubt, put a lot of miles on it over time. I've been riding as an adult for over forty years (I'm 72) and this is sure to become one of my favorite bikes! Highly recommended for anyone looking to get into serious biking.
Its been 4 months now and I still love it. The bike arrived with all of its parts. Assembly was pretty easy, though I love working with tools. The only gripe or aspect I will mention is that the disk or breaks may need to be adjusted. The disks are not fully true so they do scape up against the pad every rotation. This is not a deal breaker to me, for I love a mechanical challenge. The disks can be replaced or the break pressure can be adjusted. Its does not affect the ride significantly, but I can't help putting my ear up to the wheel and listening for it. Engineer's OCD, otherwise this bike is perfect for the average person.
